Google now has a "similar images" feature, but it's very limited
so far.  There's a decent "space" selection of astronomical
photographs and rocket takeoffs, and a fair selection of
"temples" and so on.

The artist may be checking to see whether the image has been
re-used by the publisher without telling him.  That used to be a
commonpractice.
