A movie came out that I intend to see, and, being between new books,
started rereading the original: A Princess of Mars. By now, sixty-some
or seventy-some pages in, I'm amazed that there's things I didn't see
when I was in my teens, and buying them as they came out in my high
school store.
1. Add a zeta beam, and it's Adam Strange (obviously aligned with the
Red Men of Mars, er, Rann, since he wears the red suit).
2. Yeah, I know, his jumps should be 15'-20', not 100 or more. But, with
jumps like that, he's a real Super-man. And he gets his Lois... (who
also has dark hair).
3. Wonder if the early Jedi were jeds, and their masters jeddaks....
I'm sure more will come to me. Would have been funny if Lucas had made
Darth Maul have four arms, and green skin....
Of *course* it's racist and sexist (except the green martians...) - it
was published 100 years ago. Did you expect them to have modern
attitudes (oh, sorry, I guess they *do* have modern attitudes... as
evinced by VA and TX and....)
