SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to provide technical support for the
organization's PCs, Servers, as well as voice and data networks.  This
position is responsible for maintaining high user satisfaction and
productivity through the use of computing technology including
computers, networks, and in-house and hosted software applications.  The
position assists the Technology Officer with disaster recovery planning,
preparation, and testing.  This position is also responsible for
maintaining operational data and system recovery capabilities and
providing ongoing support to end users with the use of technology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Writes technical specifications.

Monitors and manages system backups to ensure that systems and data can
be recovered

Monitors and analyzes system workload, including data traffic and
utilization trends in the technical architecture and provides proactive
response to maintain performance and security integrity.

Reads technical manuals and brochures to identify and recommend
equipment that meets requirements.

Develops and writes procedures for installation, use, and solving
problems associated with communications hardware and software.

Provides technical and functional guidance to end-users for computing
and security related issues.

Interfaces with users, consultants, technical teams, and vendors for
maximum guidance in determining the most appropriate type of hardware
installation.

Supports complex PCs and LAN/WAN networks throughout the organization.

Tests and evaluates hardware and software to determine efficiency,
reliability, and compatibility with existing systems.

Assists in the implementation and support of unified network
technologies across the organization

Designs and maintains systems recovery procedures.

Participates in the technical design, planning and testing of disaster
recovery procedures.
Maintains network hardware and software and coordinates as necessary
with vendors for services on telephone switches, routers, DSUs, servers,
firewalls, VPNs, and other related network equipment.

Provides help desk coverage as needed and responds to user problems.

Assists with day-to-day activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university or a
comparable degreed program plus three years experience in a technical
position providing support for networks, telecommunication systems
(voice and data) hardware and software, mid-range computer platforms,
PCs, WANs/LANs, including troubleshooting and resolving complex
technical problems.

OR

High School or General Education Degree (GED) plus six years experience
in a technical position providing support for networks,
telecommunication systems (voice and data) hardware and software,
mid-range computer platforms, PCs, WANs/LANs, office automation
products, including troubleshooting and resolving complex technical
problems.

TECHNICAL, BUSINESS, INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, Cisco routers,
Firewall technologies, security, PC operating software, network
protocols and topologies, including WAN/LAN configurations, in-depth
knowledge of cabling plants, telephone switches, office automation
software, and PC hardware and peripheral components.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Intermediate - Ability to speak effectively before groups such as Funds'
employees, beneficiaries, or third party administrator for purposes such
as gathering information, providing advice or counsel or making
recommendations regarding procedures or policies.

Intermediate - Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating
instructions, procedures and processing manuals.  Ability to write
reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Basic - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of
measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability
to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar
graphs.
