I also have unlimited long distance included in my landline phone-and-computer subscription. I hate cell phones but have sometimes
had to borrow one because there are almost no pay phones now
- because of cell phones... Communication is now _more_
restricted, even for those who have the things, because
the cell areas don't cover everywhere. Pay phones
used to cover everywhere there was phone service, and
before they died out you could use a phone card and not
have to have $5 in quarters with you at all times.

I have seen a classic telephone handset (I think that's what
they are called) that had a plug on the end that would go to
a cell phone but I forget which brand. It was Expensive or
I'd have bought it on spec. I have also seen a hack online
somewhere that had a cell phone built into one of the old ones.

And I have seen a cell phone built into a watch, that also
has a computer that can go online with Wifi, and takes pictures.
(Dick Tracy lives!) It's amusing to watch the owner
dig madly through his pockets for the earpiece when
he gets a call. He says the latest version is waterproof,
which would make it a little less vulnerable while you are
making tea. Expensive, of course.

I haven't yet seen a cell phone that will ring loud enough
to wake me up. That might be an advantage...
