First thing, we wound up seeing the 3-D version, and it was ok, no headache, but I didn't care for that - there was no real reason, and more, during the fight scenes, it was really, really hard at time to figure out what was happening - too many layers in front of me. On the other hand, that was a fine monster movie... well, actually, I think the Guardian was close, where they said, when the trailer came out, that it looked like a mashup of Godzilla, Transformers, and Independence Day (including the scene at the end for the latter). Afterwards, my wife, and stepson, and his friend, were criticizing, and I was wondering where the A-10s were, or why they didn't put the same rocket launchers that were in Stryker's chest along the seacoasts. Then I thought of larger guns, say, B-52's carpet bombing, or a constantly-replenished minefield around the breach. Then I thought of battleships. By that point, the mashup idea is good, but actually, it's *straight* manga. Which combined with the last thought, and I realize the weapon humans *should* have used. What's that, you ask? Why, the Yamoto, of course. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Blazers> Leading to memories, many years ago, of being at a Philly-area relaxacon, watching Last Yamato, with the 'translation" done by Phil Foligio and Nick Pollotta, who retitled it, "You Say Yamato", and I'll leave the rest to your imagination. mark -- The one true ultimate weapon: the general strike.
