I am going off to have another MMR shot today. I asked my
doctor about vaccines and the measles epidemic in Canada
and Ohio. There was a person with measles who had gone
around the farmer's markets and other shopping areas in
Loudon County and Fairfax back in early June, so staying
away from Canada is no safeguard.
She added antibody testing to my blood work, and it
seems I am no longer immune to Measles. I had the normal
childhood vaccine, and a mumps booster in college so I
thought myself perfectly safe. It seems like I am not.
The rest of you might be in a similar situation and
measles is highly contagious. Historically speaking
everyone not immune catches measles when the disease
reappears. People can catch measles by being in the same
root as a carrier, or even in the same room a couple of
hours later.
I wanted to get the other vaccines like shingles and
pneumonia but I am not old enough for that yet.
