Daily Responsibilities

SRA is seeking an innovative, dedicated, and highly-motivated Linux Engineer
to solve challenging problems for our client, a scientific and medical
research agency. If engineering web sites and applications on Linux systems,
automating bare-metal provisioning and application deployments using
configuration management, and creating scalable and performance solutions
sounds interesting to you, then please apply.

This Linux Engineer position with SRA is part of a 7 person team supporting
Linux and HPC within a larger IT infrastructure and software development
program in support of National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
(NIAID). The environment is currently a small but growing cluster made up of a
core count of 756 and 3 TB of memory, running on approximately 70 physical
nodes. As the needs of the NIAID Scientists evolve, we continue to expand our
design and cluster, adding more nodes and memory. Position is for full time
employment with SRA and will be based at our client's office in Rockville, MD
off Fishers Ln (metro accessible and parking available; part time teleworking
1 day a week is allowed).

Key responsibilities for the Linux Engineer include:
- Perform architecture design and day-to -day operational maintenance, support
and upgrades for Linux operating systems on physical and virtual servers.
- Support various platforms to include Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS and
Linux-based security appliances.
- Develop and implement innovative and complex solutions, ensuring that
upgrades and changes comply with established guidelines and processes.
- Serve as a valuable member of the team responsible for the planning and
development of a robust and scalable management infrastructure for Linux
computing resources.
- Apply in-depth Linux expertise to collaborate with stakeholders across IT
and domain disciplines to engineer solutions on Linux systems in support of
world class, cutting-edge scientific research.

Required: Basic Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree and 3+ years Systems Administration / Systems Engineering
experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
* 2+ years of experience with Linux/Unix variants, preferably RedHat / RHEL
and its derivatives
* Scripting skill of some sort (Perl, Python, Ruby, bash, etc)
* Experience and/or ability to analyze solutions components, understand
systems integration challenges, and identify technology gaps in current
components that must be resolved to reach future performance targets and
functionality requirements.
* Proven experience with administering Apache/Tomcat and MySQL, preferably in
traditional LAMP stack deployments
* Experience with automation/configuration management (Puppet preferred, will
also consider Chef, Ansible, Salt, etc)
* Experience configuring/administering and evaluating information from
monitoring, logging, and alerting tools for Linux systems (such as Nagios,
Zenoss, Ganglia, Splunk, etc)

* Strong troubleshooting skills
* Able to clearly present ideas to both technical and non-technical users and
staff
* Familiarity with industry best practices for Linux server security; ability
to implement organizational security standards on Linux platforms
* Experience with technical evaluation and recommendation of new technologies
