Reply-To: WSFA members <WSFAlist at KeithLynch.net> We just got back from seeing it, in IMAX. (odd - the one we went to didn't seem as big as, say, the one Bill Higgins and I saw Fantasia 2000; in fact, it reminded me of Cinerama). Goddamn, it lived up to trailer 1 for me. It's been a *long* time since I saw a movie, or *anything* video that good. Blew away Gravity. Now, admittedly. when my first wife and I saw 2001 first run in the theater in 1969, I walked out understanding it just fine, and didn't understand why everyone else didn't. But this ... I don't get why some reviewers (and others) refer to anything mystical. That was a *fabulous* visualization of 4-spacetime, even the books having a time dimension on the shelves. I can even go with love: we often see what we expect to see. There's a great story from real life, about Count Alfred Korzybsky (inventor of General Semantics), where he was showing someone a folding chair, and explaining how it was not *just* a chair, but had a lot of other properties, and went to sit in it... and it collapsed, but he didn't fall down, because he was seeing *more*. They *say* that the 5-space beings can't, or have a real problem, picking out a single point in spacetime; Cooper, with love for his daughter, was utterly focused on that point in spacetime... and so found it. The only real issues I have is the radiation level around the black hole, and esp. Gargantua. But otherwise, *damn*, this is good sf. mark
