A really nice bio, in an unlikely venue.

Excerpt:
As a Columbia University student in the 1930s, Ian Ballantine wrote a
paper on the economic prospects of paperback publishers.

Two years later, he was one.

Called by many the father of the mass-market paperback, Ballantine
(1916-95) produced novel ideas that helped change American reading habits
in the 1940s and '50s.

Along way, he sparked the publishing industry.
