Subject: [WSFA] I'm on my way to Philcon

I'm on my way to Philcon. Literally. I'm posting from a Greyhound
bus on a highway somewhere between Baltimore and Philadelphia.

I intended to take the 9:35 Greyhound bus from DC's Union Station,
but "minor" delays on Metro, which turned what should have been a
half-hour rush hour trip into an hour made that impossible. They told
me the 10:30 bus was sold out, and the next bus available would be
1:30. After checking with the several other inter-city bus companies
at Union Station, and discovering that all of them were either more
expensive, even later, or didn't serve Philadelphia, I bought a ticket
from Greyhound.

I got in the back of the line for the 10:30, which arrived at 11, in
case there were any no-shows. The boarding agent said I couldn't
board, since people might want to board at Baltimore. But just as I
was about to walk away, the driver said he could take me. So here I
am. Nobody got left behind at New Carrollton or at Baltimore, where
more people got off than got on.

There are power outlets and Wi-Fi on the bus, so I booted up my
laptop. The passenger next to me is using hers, too. The Wi-Fi was
out for most of the trip between DC and Baltimore, but was on in the
long tunnel under Baltimore Harbor, and is still on on the highway
where we're going at full speed. Go figure.

After arriving in downtown Philadelphia, it will be a short walk to
the 406 bus, which should take me right to the con hotel across the
river in New Jersey.

Of the hundreds of thousands of emails I've sent, I think this is the
first I've ever sent while in motion.
