If I understand correctly, you're asking why you didn't hear, on this
list, about Mark's event. If so, the answer is that he chose not to
post to this list. Why did he make that choice? You would have to
ask him.

When I left the club in 2005, those in charge said the club's email
list should not be run by a non-member. I agreed, and said I would
merge my list into the new list. I merely asked that, of the many
platforms available, they not use Yahoogroups, since lots of members,
including me, refused to have anything to do with Yahoo, for reasons
I'll describe if anyone asks. The club then promptly chose Yahoogroups.
Whether this was malicious, I won't speculate here.

So, by popular request, I kept this list running. Years later, people
on both lists told me that this list still had higher volume than the
rival official Yahoo list.

This dual-list situation has always been inconvenient. Some people
are subscribed to one, some to the other, some to both. People
subscribed to only one list miss posts that only appear on the other.
People subscribed to both lists see many messages twice.

Since I've had *no* new subscribers, it's obvious that, for whatever
reason, the club has chosen to inform new members only of the Yahoo
list. Also, all mentions of this list were soon purged from the
WSFA website.

The good news is that the club recently decided to replace the list
on the hated Yahoo platform with one on the Googlegroups platform. I
subscribed to the latter. (That's where I saw Mark's announcement.)
It already has a higher volume than this list. So, if nobody objects,
I plan to encourage people on this list to subscribe to that list, and
finally shut down this list.
