I've heard that that was why WSFA moved to Googlegroups. But I've
also heard that, while changes were made to Yahoo groups, they didn't
actually shut down. I don't know, and I don't much care.

To clarify, I was speaking, not of what happened recently, but of what
happened in 2005 when I left WSFA. The club said that the official
club list shouldn't be run by a non-member. I agreed, and said that
my intention was to merge my list into the new official list. I
didn't recommend any particular new list platform, but I did strongly
recommend against Yahoo. The club then chose Yahoo. I don't know
whether that was a coincidence, or malice.

Since so many members refused to use Yahoo, I've kept my list going
ever since. It's clear that some WSFA members still hold a grudge,
since they've failed to inform new WSFA members of this list, and
since they've refrained from posting important news on this list.
As a result of the latter, attendance at various funerals and other
events was lower than it would have been, since many of us didn't
learn of the events in time, or at all. Conversely, some events were
announced only on this list, and were missed by people only subscribed
to the other list. And people subscribed to both lists saw many
messages twice. It was very suboptimal, and I'm glad the club finally
dumped Yahoo, whatever its reason.
