There's something about email that makes communications more abrasive. People who get along fine in person or on the phone may get into fights online. It's a good idea to always proofread before you send, not just for spelling and grammar, but for anything that anyone could mis-interpret in a way that they might take offense to. Similarly, when you are offended by something you read, please see if there's some way to interpret it as having been meant differently, or as having been written with a smile rather than a scowl. Killfiling doesn't work very well on this list, since so many people quote the complete messages of the people they're responding to. It's prudent to stay out of discussions of incendiary topics, such as that 1860s war and people's reaction to it. Even using the wrong name for that war can be inflammatory. So, what does everyone think of that Israel/Palestine situation? What ought to be done? -- Keith F.
