I can't just whip up statistics in one minute, you know.

It takes me two.

Here are the top ten days in message volume, prior to today. This
excludes duplicate messages, which aren't archived.

111 April 2nd
102 March 5th
 81 April 1st
 80 March 7th
 63 March 24th
 62 March 4th
 60 March 6th
 60 March 22nd
 59 March 26th
 44 February 22nd

There have been a record 178 (!) messages posted so far today
(including this one). Some of them are duplicates, so the total could
go down. More likely, since there are more than two hours left in the
day, the total will go up.

(There were also three attempts today by two list members to send HTML
email. I know who they are, and when they sent their messages, but I
cannot see the contents or subject line of the messages, nor whether
they were addressed to the list or just to me. I plan to soon stop
logging even that much, since even the one-line-per-message log files
are huge, showing many thousands of failed spam attempts each day.)

I'm surprised that we've only lost two people. (Bob MacIntosh and
Dick Roepke.) I thought more would flee in horror from such volume.

In January 1980 a much smaller volume on the SF-LOVERS email list
managed to bring the whole net to its knees.

I always welcome replies to my e-mail, postings, and web pages, but
unsolicited bulk e-mail (spam) is not acceptable. Please do not send me
HTML, "rich text," or attachments, as all such email is discarded unread.
