Subject: [WSFA] David Brin's critique of the Star Wars series

I found David Brin's critique of the Star Wars series, which I had
mentioned last night. Subtitled "Why is George Lucas peddling an
elitist, anti-democratic agenda under the guise of escapist fun?",
it's at
http://www.salon.com/ent/movies/feature/1999/06/15/brin_main/index.html

I won't be at tonight's theater party, since I saw the new movie on
Thursday. It was pretty much what I expected. Great eye candy.
I'm pleased to announce that there was very little of Jar Jar, and
absolutely no animated teddy bears.

Perhaps Lucas read Brin's critique, and is reacting to it, since
Democracy is repeatedly praised during the new movie.
