Many people were there who weren't at the meeting. I don't know how they found out about it. I didn't think I could make it, since I had already promised that evening to my brother. But I was able to talk him into going. And he says he enjoyed it. Maybe I'll get him into WSFA, or at least Capclave. He has gone to Disclaves very sporadically since 1980 (!) and to one Worldcon (1993) but never quite managed to connect. After the party he was given a ride back to Metro by Mike Walsh. A good time was had by all, chatting with Andrew Adams, who is on the staff of the unopposed Glasgow in '05 bid. Andrew was just stopping by on his way to this year's Worldcon. I walked home. I considered just walking to Metro, then taking Metro home, but it was such a beautiful night I decided to keep going. I'll certainly get my fill of riding on trains and not being able to walk anywhere, in a week (if nothing goes wrong). I'm glad I did. I saw all sorts of weirdness. Including a parade of several thousand people, identically dressed, walking down West Street in Falls Church. At about 1 am. I fininally found out what was going on. See http://www.bethepeople.com/darkness/events_darkness.htm I think someone needs some lessons in PR. Holding events in the middle of the night is not the best way to get publicity for a cause. The weather was strange. I was hit by about one raindrop every ten minutes. I didn't think it was possible to rain that little without not raining at all. The surpise ending story I mentioned last night is "Despoilers of the Golden Empire" by Randall Garrett writing as David Gordon. It can be found in the March 1959 _Asounding_, and in _Analog's Lighter Side_ (1982), which was edited by this year's Capclave's Guest of Honor. -- Keith F.
