I just finished Thomas Cahill's _How the Irish Saved Civilization_.
In the acknowledgments (yes, I'm one of the two or three people who
actually reads that section) I saw a "Michael Walsh" credited, right
alongside a "Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis".

That wouldn't be our Michael Walsh, would it?
