August 8 - 10: Otakon
A very large anime convention in Baltimore.
Thursday, August 14th: Tom Clancy at B&N in Reston
Bestselling technothriller author Tom Clancy signs his new
novel _Teeth of the Tiger_ at the Barnes & Noble at 1851 Fountain
Drive, Reston Virginia, at 7 pm. Be warned that he will only
sign his new novel. And that he will not be giving a talk or a

Monday, August 18th: Dr. Who viewing
The Northern Virginia Doctor Who Viewing Society will be
showing "Happiness Patrol" at the Fairfax Government Center
starting at 7 pm.

At 5:51 a.m., the planet MARS is closer to Earth than it has
been for nearly 60,000 years, or will be again until 2287.
August 28 - September 1: 61st World SF Convention: Torcon 3
Toronto hosts the first non-US Worldcon of the new Millennium.
September 4 - 6: International Comic Arts Festival
International Comic Arts Festival at Georgetown University.
Thursday, September 4th: DC Transhumanist Dinner
7 pm at Hamburger Hamlet in Crystal City.
September 5 - 7: The Expo
The Expo (SPX 2003) in Bethesda Maryland. A comics-related event.

Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, authors of _Dune: The
Machine Crusade_, read and sign at Olsson's Books and Records at
7 pm at 1200 F St. NW, near the Metro Center Metro station on
the Red, Orange, and Blue lines.
Friday, September 19th: Wen Spencer speaks at LoC
Wen Spencer, 2002 Compton Crook Award winner for _Alien Taste_,
gives a talk at the Library of Congress Madison Building, 3rd
floor, Pickford Theater, at 12:10 pm.

The Philadelphia Science Fiction Society (PSFS) brings you
another Philcon. In Philadelphia.

Friday, February 29th: Datclave II
Location TBA. WSFA hosts Datclave whenever a February has a
fifth Friday. The previous one was in 1980.
