Subject: [WSFA] I'm back in the USA

Well, I made it back into the USA, with no problems. The customs
people were distracted by a Vietnamese woman with no papers, two badly
behaved children, and little command of English.

I arrived in Toronto on Tuesday, after having stayed up all night
Monday on (or waiting for) the train. Tuesday night I crashed with
Fred Moulton, who knows me via the Libertarian Futurist Society, the
group that awards the Prometheus Award. Wednesday night I stayed up.
On Thursday, Mike Walsh let me shower in his room, and stash my bag
there. Thursday night I stayed at the apartment of Ben Best, a friend
of mine who lives in Toronto. Friday night I shared the cryonics
party room with Keith Henson. Saturday and Sunday nights I shared
a room with Sam Lubell and Hank Smith. Monday night I stayed up all
night at the dead dog party, which lasted until about 7 am Tuesday.

Also on Monday I went up the CN tower. I was disappointed I wasn't
allowed to take the stairs. But it does have a great view. Yes, I
walked on the glass floor.

My train left at 9:40 am on Tuesday, and arrived in New York City at
9:45 pm. I could have caught a train to DC an hour later, but that
would have left me in DC's Union Station after the last Metro train
left. So I'm crashing at Zev Sero's apartment in Brooklyn, after
checking my bag at Penn Station. (There are no lockers, but the
baggage check desk will hold bags for you overnight for $5. Since
they didn't ask to look at my ticket or at anything else, I fail to
see how this is more secure against bags containing bombs or
contraband.) We were going to play tourist, but it was pouring rain.
Maybe I'll do so alone tomorrow, but since the forecast is for more
rain in NYC tomorrow, I'll probably take a train to DC shortly after I
get up Wednesday morning. In any case, I should definitely be home by
midnight Wednesday.
