Reply-To: WSFA members <WSFAlist at keithlynch.net> There were two SF-related deaths yesterday. No, neither one was an author or a fan (as far as I know). But one was a ground-breaking controversial film-maker whose movie scenes inspired similar scenes in numerous later SF and fantasy movies made all over the world. The other was an inventor whose Device inspired more SF books, short stories, movies, TV mini-series, etc., than any other single invention ever. Both were quite elderly. Both had done their best work in the 1930s and 1940s. Both were hated by millions of people. Both were admired by millions of people. Both lived lives more remarkable than most fictional characters. -- Keith F.
