Instead of scaling back Capclave, I'd like to it to evolve back into something like Disclave Classic. A three day weekend, the same (local transit-accessible from DC) hotel and same weekend every year, 1000 to 1500 members, an art show, and a film program. An annual event that most people who regularly attend both Philcon and Balticon at least seriously consider attending. We already hold one day events, twice each month. I think the main reason for the spotty out-of-town attendance at Capclave is: * In September 2001, the horrific events of two weeks earlier. * In October 2002, the sniper rampage, which was at its peak. * In November 2003, the fact that many potential members had been in town for WFC just three weeks earlier. Also, there's a local anime con the same weekend. Also, the weekend was changed. * Also, for all three of them, we weren't able to sell memberships at the previous year's Capclave. None of these apply to October 2004. (The '04 contract has been signed, and memberships will be for sale at '03, right?) -- Keith F.
