Thursday, December 11th: DNA in the Movies
DNA Debacles and Genetic Hijinks: Genome and the Movies.
Lecture with Film Clips. Smithsonian Resident Associate
Program. Location: Hirshhorn Museum, Ring Auditorium. $15,
general admission; $12, SA members. 7 pm. With clips from films
including Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, The Fly, The Island of Dr.
Moreau, and The Hollow Man, author and film scholar Tom Weiner
illustrates the many ways that movie science has gone wrong --
and has been immensely entertaining in the process.
December 12 - 14: Philcon 2003
The Philadelphia Science Fiction Society (PSFS) brings you
another Philcon. In Philadelphia.
Monday, December 15th: Air & Space Museum Dulles Annex open
The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, the new Dulles annex to the
National Air & Space Museum, will finally open to the public,
at 10 am. Expect crowds.
Friday, December 19th: WSFA Third Friday Meeting
Regular WSFA meeting (at the Ginters' as usual). Newcomers
welcome. Email me for directions.
Sunday, December 21st: WSFA/Mensa holiday party
From 2 pm to 6 pm at Rebecca Prather's house near Seven
Corners. Contact her at Prather at netzero.net for directions. All
WSFAns are invited.

Fantek's annual winter convention, at the Reston Sheraton.

Friday, January 23rd: Philosophical Society of Washington talk
The Philosophical Society of Washington presents The Future of
Human Space Flight by John M. Logsdon, Director, Space Policy
Institute at 8:15 pm in the John Wesley Powell Auditorium,
Cosmos Club, 2170 Florida Avenue NW DC, near the Dupont Circle
Metro station on the Red Line.
Friday, January 30th: Fifth Friday
WSFA often has a party on months with a fifth Friday. Stay
tuned for details.

February 13 - 15: Boskone
In Boston.
Sunday, February 29th: Winterfest
Winterfest is an annual electronic flea market, concentrating
on ham radio and computer hardware, mostly used. In Annandale.

The Baltimore Science Fiction Society (BSFS) brings you another
Balticon!
June 11 - 13: Conterpoint 2004
A filk convention in Rockville Maryland.
September 2 - 6: 62nd World SF Convention: Noreascon 4
Back to Boston.
October 15 - 17: Capclave 2004
WSFA is putting on a convention! At Tysons Corner, VA.
December 3 - 5: SMOFcon
WSFA is hosting 2004's SMOFcon at the Wyndham Washington, 1400
M Street NW, Washington DC. $40 until 12/31/03. More info
coming soon.
2005
August 4 - 8: 63rd World SF Convention: Interaction
Glasgow, once more with ceiling.
September 1 - 5: CascadiaCon
The 2005 NASFiC, in Seattle.
2006
August 23 - 27: 64th World SF Convention: L.A.con IV
Anaheim California, same place as the 1996 Worldcon and the
1999 NASFiC.
2008
Friday, February 29th: Datclave II
Location TBA. WSFA hosts Datclave whenever a February has a
fifth Friday. The previous one was in 1980.
