Date: Wed, 11 Feb 2004 00:25:29 -0500 (EST) From: "Keith F. Lynch" <kfl at KeithLynch.net> To: WSFA Members <WSFAlist at KeithLynch.net> Subject: [WSFA] This list is two years old today Reply-To: WSFA members <WSFAlist at keithlynch.net> This list, intended for the use of past and present members of the Washington Science Fiction Association, is two years old today. To help keep mailboxes from overflowing, and to keep from stuffing everyone's mailboxes with multiple copies of the same stuff over and over again, please don't include more of the message you're replying to than is necessary to establish context. Messages have often contained ALL of the message they were replying to, which in turn contained ALL of the message THAT message was replying to, several levels deep! No matter how wonderful a message is, nobody wants to get multiple copies of it. Thank you. Please inform me before your email address goes away. Please make sure your mailbox doesn't overflow and bounce messages back at me. Please temporarily unsubscribe if you're going to be offline for a long time. Thank you. Also, please don't post more than one or two paragraphs from any copyrighted source. Instead, please just post the URL. Thanks. Archives of this list are at http://www.wsfa.org/list/, mirrored at http://keithlynch.net/wsfa/list/. Please do not link any public web pages to these archives, or mention them, or the email address of this list, on any other mailing list or any newsgroup. Please do not forward messages sent to this list to anyone except past and present WSFA members without the permission of the sender. (You're welcome to mention the *existence* of this list to anyone.) HTML messages and messages with attachments cannot be posted to the list, for several reasons, including the fact that they can convey viruses and web bugs, which can reveal your private information to others. If your mailer defaults to sending HTML, please see http://www.expita.com/nomime.html for instructions on how to turn it off. I suggest you turn it off for everyone, since more and more people are deleting all such email unread. (The August 2003 Consumer Reports magazine is one of many sources that recommends deleting HTML email unread to cut down on spam.) Any past or present WSFA member can: * Subscribe to this list. * Post to this list, even if they're not subscribed. And can do so from any email address. * Read messages in the archives, even if they're not subscribed. Please don't post anything that you don't want to be seen by all WSFA members, now and in the future. But don't assume that what you post here will be seen by all WSFA members, or by any one of them in particular. Please don't CC any messages to non-subscribers without a good reason for each one. WSFAns who aren't subscribed to the list do not wish to receive email meant for all WSFAns. This is a very low budget operation. Obviously, a WSFA.ORG email address would have been nicer than a KEITHLYNCH.NET address, but WSFA.ORG only serves static web pages. KEITHLYNCH.NET is hosted by PLETHORA.NET in Minnesota. This domain has the advantage that I "own" every possible email address on it, so I can simply decide that "WSFAlist" will go to the list. But the list itself is actually running on PANIX.COM in New York. It is up to our secretary which messages to print in the WSFA Journal. If you don't want a particular message printed in the WSFA Journal, please say so in the message. (We may want to change this policy, so that our secretary can only reprint a message with explicit permission from the sender. Does anyone care one way or the other?) Subscribes, unsubscribes, and archive updates are handled manually. Usually within a day. Except archive updates, which are usually once or twice a week. Also see the article about this list in February 2003's WSFA Journal, at http://www.wsfa.org/journal/j03/2/index.htm#elsb mirrored at http://keithlynch.net/wsfa/journal/j03/2/index.htm#elsb 42 people have posted 5206 messages to the list, an average of 7 per day. The average for January was 3 messages a day, and for February 5 messages per day so far. The average for 2003 as a whole was 4 messages per day. The average for 2002 as a whole was 12 messages per day. There are currently 34 subscribers. Since last month, E.C. (Stan) Fieldand Emily Richter have subscribed, and nobody has unsubscribed or changed email address. Here are all the past and present subscribers and senders, along with the number of messages they have sent and their email address. The email address shown is the one they receive postings on. All past and present WSFA members (including non-subscribers) can post to the list from any email address. Email addresses in parentheses are the address a non-subscriber last posted from, or a former subscriber last subscribed from, and may no longer be valid addresses.
